Granblue Fantasy takes place in the Sky Realm, a world where myriad islands float in a vast blue expanse.

Take on the role of captain of a sky-sailing crew alongside a small dragon named Vyrn and a young woman with mysterious powers named Lyria.

Together you sail with a colorful cast of crew members, including kings and misfits alike, to Estalucia, a legendary island beyond the end of the sky.

In Zegagrande Skydom, the islands are guarded by powerful creatures known as primal beasts, and the winds carry tales of a secret organization known as the Church of Avia.

- Whether you play online or offline, you can build and develop a party of four to suit your play style
- Each character has access to their own talent tree from which they can learn new skills, as well as weapons and seals that only they can equip

- A Skybound Art is an attack that deals huge damage on its own, but when chained with other party members' Skybound Arts, it triggers a damaging knockback called a chain burst

- There are over 100 quests waiting to be solved at a city's quest counter
- Each mission has its own objectives and side goals that reward experience and treasure upon completion
